Scholarships and Awards

Thanks to the generosity of the College's donors three scholarship opportunities exist for students pursuing careers in the professional health industry. Students can apply through the scholarship portal in MyCharleston.

W. JERVEY RAVENEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Endowed by René Ravenel in honor of his father W. Jervey Ravenel. This scholarship is awarded to a rising junior or senior who has declared an intention to go to medical school. First prefence will be given to students from Berkeley or Charleston counties.

RENE RAVENEL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

Created by Eva Ravenel in memory of Dr. René Ravenel '65 this scholarship is awarded as follows:

  • First preference shall be to a student who is a resident of South Carolina and a member of an under-represented group participating in the Pre-professional Health Program at the College of Charleston.
  • Second preference shall be to a student sho is a resident of South Carolina who is participating in the Pre-professional Health Program at the College of Charleston.
  • Third preference shall be to a student who is participating in the Pre-professional Health Program at the College of Charleston.

J. GORMAN '43 AND GLADYS THOMAS ENDOWED MEMORIAL ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP

Established by Dr. Gary W. Thomas ’83 in memory of his father and mother it is awarded to a rising junior or senior who is a member of the Pre-Medical Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta and plans a career in medicine.

THE MARY LOUISE KURTNACKER MEMORIAL AWARD

This award was established by friends and family of Mary Louise Kurtnacker who devoted much of her life to the College's Department of Biology. It is presented annually to an outstanding pre-nursing student at the School of Sciences and Mathematics Spring Awards Ceremony.

MCAT PREP SCHOLARSHIP

Students enrolling in the Collegei's MCAT Prep Course may be eligible to receive a scholarship to cover the cost of tuition and books for the course.
